Icon of the 1960s design, the Ballon armchair or Ball Chair presents an original and futuristic form for the time. Created by Eero Aarnio for the Cologne Furniture Fair in 1966, the success of this armchair quickly took on an international dimension and, even today, it inspires filmmakers, photographers, advertisers or architects around the world.
While the Ball armchair was originally designed to cause a stir, the designer also wanted to experiment with fiberglass as a material. For the shell, the round shape then seemed the most suitable, mounted solidly on a 360°; swiveling aluminum foot. As for the interior of the bubble, a high quality fabric covers the entire surface and the seat. Initially imagined in black, the Ball Chair was then made available in several colors, including red for a «PopArt» result.
Very enveloping, the Ball armchair conjures up mystery by revealing only partially the person sitting inside. It is ideal for relaxing or making a discreet phone call, as the armchair is also well soundproofed. In a lounge area, it will find its place to welcome visitors comfortably. Place at the busy heart of a showroom or exhibition, this piece is also suitable for reading, listening or thinking.
