Designed by Marcel Breuer
The Cesca chair by Marcel Breuer features a clean and modern aesthetic, typical of the Bauhaus movement. Its chrome-plated tubular steel frame gives the chair a light and floating appearance, creating an impression of minimalism and sophistication. The steel tube, curved in a single continuous piece, gives the chair its cantilever structure, allowing for slight flexing and a suspension effect that offers distinctive comfort.
The seat and backrest made of woven cane add a natural and organic texture, pleasantly contrasting with the smooth and shiny metal. This combination of materials reflects the Bauhaus interest in using industrial materials alongside traditional craftsmanship techniques. The woven cane, often in a natural or lightly stained color, introduces warmth and a visual invitation into an otherwise very geometric and functional design.
The simple lines and right angles of the chair contribute to its modern and timeless appearance. The absence of superfluous decorations highlights the pure form and the materials used. The junctions between the different parts of the steel frame are discreet and well-integrated, reinforcing the idea of a fluid and continuous design.
The wide seat and slightly inclined backrest ensure good ergonomic support, while the elasticity of the woven cane provides additional comfort by slightly adapting to the shape of the body. The Cesca chair, with its combination of functionality, comfort, and refined aesthetics, remains an iconic example of 20th-century design innovation and beauty.
Now produced by Knoll, the Cesca chair is perfect for restaurant configurations, complementing a wooden or marble table like the Saarinen table. This seat can also be used as an office chair, offering an elegant workspace.
