The Abalon Sofa, Vitra's new sofa, was developed in collaboration with the French design duo Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec. With its organic curved shape, this seating furniture evokes a welcoming and attractive circle in the space.
This sofa takes its name from the shell of a sea snail, the Abalon, designed in its image as a protective and welcoming envelope. The aesthetic of the Abalon Sofa is profoundly and intrinsically timeless, and will outlast even the most ephemeral of trends.
Abalon has an unusual appearance: strong and solid, yet light and graceful. According to Vitra, ‘The Abalon Sofa seems to defy all temporal assignment and does not correspond to any established regional furniture tradition: while its organic lines and forms recall mid-century design, the mesh fabric similar to that of sports shoes gives it a futuristic aesthetic.’
It's an ideal seat to offer a touch of seclusion or a moment of tranquillity in a communal area or lounge, at a trade show for example. It can also be used as a centrepiece on stage, for a remarkable performance that will get noticed!
